Experiences of Ghanaian Student Nurses’ and Midwives’ during Clinical Practice in the Kumasi Metropolis: An Ethnographic Study

Background: The clinical practice component in nursing and midwifery education is a neglected area of research. There far ranging evidence that exposure skills acquisition not equitable Ghana. Researchers have focused mostly on supervision with students’ needs still prioritized. Therefore, this research sought to explore views stories about their practicum experiences help gain deeper understanding into knowledge, competency acquisition, learning, transition practice.
 Methods: We utilized ethnography design Roper & Shapira’s methods 12 students during intra-practicum period tertiary hospital situated the Kumasi Metropolis Ashanti-Region Within 4 weeks intra practicum, participants were conveniently purposively sampled an interview guide grand tour question participants’ involved conversation elicit information through focus group discussions (FGD) natural setting. FGDs conducted weekly basis debrief sessions for 3 until repeated what they already said previous indicating data saturation.
 Results: Nursing face diverse realities sites, are least supported acquisitions, leading theory confusion inconsistencies, as challenges training. It was found there lack preceptors limited ward nurses’ preparedness support hence subjected excessive unproductive errands periods practicum. also collaboration between tutors practicing nurses training further exacerbating theory-practice confusion. Conclusion Recommendations: identified gap calling clinicians strengthen student nurse This will address challenge “theory-practice inconsistencies” among others.
